Higher History pupils came along today to investigate what life was like for new immigrants to the United States of America in the early 20th century. Many of these immigrants would have landed at Ellis Island before being allowed entry into the US.

The Higher pupils are following links on the school website to answer a specific question set by Mrs Letham, but Ellis Island is a fascinating location in itself and worth exploring using the same links which include photos, videos and audio files.

Or why not try typing in your surname at the Ellis Island Foundation? You don’t need to sign up and there’s no cost to see maybe thousands of people who share your name who chose to emigrate to the USA. Each one with their own story.
