Makar

The position of Scots Makar was created in 2004 by the Scottish Parliament (Makar is a Scots word for a poet). Edwin Morgan was the first Makar, or official poet of Scotland, but he sadly died in August 2010.

Now, Motherwell-born writer, Liz Lochhead, has been named as the new Scots Makar.
