National Library of Scotland

Did you know…

The National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh is Scotland’s largest library.

It’s the only legal deposit library in Scotland. That means it receives a copy of everything published in the UK and Ireland for free! That’s roughly 320,000 new items every year.

Those 320,000 new items need 3 kilometres of shelving every year. That’s roughly the distance from OLHS to Strathclyde Park!

The books all have to be shelved by height so that space isn’t wasted, but the library is still running out of room to put all the books.
