Scottish scientists and Lanarkshire people competition

All of 1st year have come along to the LRC to investigate Scotland’s contribution to science. Poor Alexander Fleming: most classes thought he looked old and grumpy!

We discussed why there were no women in the list, whether there were women scientists in the past (LOADS OF THEM – past and present!) and why there’s not enough information about them!

Mr McKendrick remembered a website about Dr Marion Gilchrist, who was born in Bothwell. She was the first female medical graduate of Glasgow University and worked as as an eye specialist.

Dr Gilchrist appears in a competition on the Visit Lanarkshire website which allows you to vote for your favourite Lanarkshire people. Check out the information on their website and you could win some prizes.
