Emma, Hannah and Olivia – Bethlehem

As Bethlehem was the birthplace of Jesus Christ, Christians often think of it as a very sacred place. Every year Bethlehem holds Christmas celebrations and services led by many Christian parties. The Christmas procession passes through Manger Square, the plaza outside the Basilica of the Nativity, which stands on the traditional site of Jesus’ birth.

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. There were many inns in Bethlehem but all were full on the night of Jesus’ birth so Joseph along with a pregnant Mary, had to stay in a stable. Jesus was soon born in the stable where the Three Kings and the sheperds who followed a star brought him gifts.

Bethlehem was a very pleasent place to live in Jesus’ time but sadly, today, Bethlehem is now Palestinian Territory which makes it a dangerous place to be. Most Christmas celebrations are now not allowed to take place apart from the bigger services and processions.

During the Christmas season in Bethlehem they celebrate by having Christmas markets, Christmas plays, and light filling the city. So Bethlehem still keep there Christmas spirit and the Holyness because the birth of Jesus in a stable happened in this city.  Bethlehem is sacred and should keep its cultures.
