The Gosling List

By The Goslings

What books would you recommend to someone else?

We are compiling a list of books that everyone should read before they leave school. They can be teen fiction, non-fiction, children’s fiction, short stories, picture books, autobiographies; there are no rules.

We’ve have already started to add our recommendations, including:

  • Harper Lee – To kill a mockingbird
  • J K Rowling – Harry Potter series
  • Frank Cottrell Bryce – Framed
  • David Almond – Skellig
  • Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman – Good Omens

Mrs Macfadyen suggested everyone should get only one suggestion, and then added two dozen of her own. Mrs Millar has added Skallagrigg and other staff suggestions are in the comments. We’ve been touring the school asking staff and pupils for their opinions and we’ll post them all here eventually.

You can also add your own recommendations in the comments.

It’s already proving to be a good exercise. For instance, it turned out that no Gosling had ever read an Asterix book. Mrs Macfadyen was outraged and demanded we all read one immediately, which gave us a chance to sit down and read for a while.
